Interview with Dr. Patrick Doveze

By Camille Ygouf

"What surprised me most about using Nabla was its astonishing precision [...] reproducing better what I would have written myself."

Presentation by Dr. Patrick Doveze

My name is Patrick Doveze, I'm 62 years old and I've been working for Tessan since July 2023.

What is your background as a doctor?

As a doctor, my career has been rich and varied.
I obtained my doctorate in 1991, after which I spent 35 years practicing as an emergency physician.

In 2005, I had the opportunity to gain experience in Canada by working in a dispensary in Alaska, where I intervened in many types of medical problems including emergencies, thus developing important and quality experience.

From 2010 onwards, in addition to working as a locum in emergency departments across Europe, I developed a consulting company dedicated to hospital budget management. I worked with a team of 20 employees. The aim was to achieve savings of 15%, while modifying the organization of hospital teams to achieve maximum efficiency.

Between 2015 and 2018, I chose to set up in private practice in Switzerland. Then in 2018, I returned to practice in France.
Since 2019, I've been involved in various teleconsultation platforms ranging from regulation to augmented platforms like Tessan.

How have Tessan and augmented telemedicine changed your practice?

Tessan and the introduction of augmented teleconsultation have considerably transformed my remote medical practice in several ways:

Easier ear examination

One of the major advantages of Tessan is the absence of headphones. Everyone present can clearly hear what I'm saying during teleconsultations, making clinical examinations easier, for example when examining an ear or a child.

Instant results

With Tessan, the use of connected objects enables examination results to be displayed directly on the doctor's screen. This minimizes the risk of measurement errors and offers a smoother experience for the patient.

Patients are no longer uncertain about their blood pressure measurements, as these data are easily identifiable.

Easy identification of medical devices

Identification of medical devices is also simplified, thanks to clearly identifiable numbers on the doctor's and patient's sides.

Compared to other platforms without connected tools, Tessan enables more definitive confirmation of diagnoses.

How long have you been using Nabla? How often?

I've been using Nabla for about a year before I joined Tessan, in the summer of 2022.
Since then, I've integrated it into all my teleconsultations.

Why did you decide to use Nabla?

I was initially prompted to try out Nabla, and right from the start I found it very interesting to use.

What particularly appealed to me was that it offers an additional service by providing much more precise and synthetic information. It is capable of capturing all elements in an exhaustive yet concise manner, avoiding oversights and ensuring that all necessary information is transmitted.

I've noticed that when I communicate something, Nabla interprets it in a literal and literary way, which reinforces the clarity and precision of the exchanges.

Nabla offers a complete and exhaustive assessment, while remaining synthetic. He leaves nothing to chance and emphasizes patient consent. This is crucial from both a legal and a medical point of view.

What do you think are the advantages of Nabla?

Nabla confronts the patient with his or her own contradictions, which can be beneficial for a better understanding of his or her medical situation.
It makes it easier to remember everything that was said during the consultation, contributing to more precise and effective medical care.

What impact has Nabla had on your teleconsultation practice?

Nabla has had a significant impact on my teleconsultation practice.
It is more accurate and offers greater data protection. I now use it systematically in all my consultations.

Has Nabla become an indispensable tool for your teleconsultations?

Yes, it has become an indispensable tool during my teleconsultations.

It offers additional comfort, because once the consultation is over, you simply have to read it again to make sure that all the information has been correctly recorded.
This avoids any risk of forgetfulness and ensures complete and precise medical follow-up.

Which feature(s) do you use most?

The feature I use the most is the summary report.
It allows me to quickly condense all the important information.
Keeping a history of the reports is great too!

A memorable anecdote about using Nabla?

A striking anecdote from Nabla's use was when it was able to synthesize in just two sentences what I had taken thirty minutes to explain, and what the patient was struggling to understand.

An example of Nabla's concrete contribution to consultation?

During each teleconsultation, I sometimes miss certain answers from patients. In such cases, when I reread the Nabla report, it helps me to find these important details.

For example, if a patient mentions that they've been ill for three days, it doesn't mean the same thing as if they'd been ill the day before. With Nabla, I'm sure I won't miss these subtleties during my consultations.
