The health pass: everything you need to know

Introduced in France on June 9, 2021 in paper and digital form, the health pass is now mandatory for access to certain venues or participation in certain events. But how do you get one? How long is it valid? How long will it be necessary to have this document? Here's some key information to help you understand how the health pass works.

Who needs a health pass and why?

The health pass is a document given to every person vaccinated in France. Equipped with a unique and nominative QR Code, this paper will allow you to certify to the authorities that you have received two doses of vaccine against the covid-19 vaccine (or one dose for Johnson & Johnson).

Since July 21, 2021, the health pass has been compulsory for all people aged 18 and over wishing to access leisure and cultural venues with the capacity to hold more than 50 people. For young people aged 12-17, the compulsory health pass has been postponed until August 30, to give them enough time to get vaccinated, since the vaccination was only opened to them on June 15.

So, to enter a restaurant, amusement park or cinema, you'll need to show your health pass digitally (via the TousAntiCovid application available free on smartphones) or on paper.

To date, a PCR test or an antigenic antigenic test test less than 48 hours old are also accepted, and entitle their holders to the same benefits as vaccinated persons. vaccinated people. Please note, however, that the government has already announced that PCR tests will be subject to a charge from September onwards, in order to encourage the French to opt for vaccination, which will be fully covered by social security.

Why is it compulsory in these places? Quite simply to prevent the spread of the virus, by allowing greater freedom. This pass minimizes the risk of contamination by the virus, and allows the country to reopen establishments linked to tourism and entertainment. It will also make border crossings easier, as in most countries a recent negative test or vaccination certificate is required for entry.

How to obtain and use it

To obtain the health pass, a complete vaccination schedule is required. Please note that for double-injection vaccines, the vaccine will be active after a certain period following the second injection, and after a longer period for single-injection vaccines:

  • 7 days for double-injection vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca)
  • 4 weeks for single-dose vaccines (Johnson & Johnson)
  • 7 days for people who have received an injection and have a history of Covid-19.

Following your second vaccination, you'll receive a paper health pass with a QR code that you can scan with your mobile phone to obtain your health pass on the TousAntiCovid application. You'll then need to present it when you enter the premises. As this document is issued only once, we advise you to make copies and keep them in a safe place.

Good to know: the application also enables you to scan the QR code present at the entrance to these establishments, so as to be warned if a person with Covid-19 may have been in contact with you. Information obtained from establishments displaying this QR code cannot be used for any other purpose, as your personal data is protected and confidential.
